Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck) was an American performer and actress who toured for more than 40 years. London was a torch performer well-known for her soft, melodic vocals and languid contralto voice was a recording artist on more than thirty albums of pop and jazz classics between 1955-1969. Her recording of "Cry me a river" the song she introduced on her debut album, was admitted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for her part as Dixie McCall, a nurse on Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her first professional job was acting as an actress as she was an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's 35-year-long acting career began in 1944 with roles in films. This included roles as the lead female character in several westerns. Also, she starred alongside Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958), and Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). In the late 1950s, she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional musical career. In 1969 she released her final studio album. However she was part of the emergency series in the role of Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) In the show, she appeared alongside her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband was the producer of the show.
